Established in 1954, Reeves Regional Health Trauma Center was founded to deliver essential healthcare to the communities of West Texas. Over decades, the original hospital aged, necessitating a comprehensive transformation. This project embodies the district's commitment to replacing the outdated facility with a state-of-the-art hospital, designed to meet the region's evolving needs. The new facility features 25 private inpatient beds, a Level IV emergency department with a minimum of eight exam rooms, three trauma rooms, a delivery suite, a nursery, a women’s imaging department, a physical therapy gym, a 15-bay dialysis unit, surgical services, an inpatient/outpatient laboratory, a cardiovascular rehabilitation program, and dedicated support service spaces.
Nestled in the heart of West Texas, where vast desert expanses meet the forested peaks of the Davis Mountains and the clearest night skies in North America, the hospital’s design draws inspiration from its breathtaking surroundings. From the outset, the architectural vision prioritized harmony with the region’s natural beauty, weaving the essence of the landscape into the building’s aesthetic.
Gabriel along with the design team wanted the hospital’s facade to evoke wonder and curiosity, with sleek concrete panels that appear to float elegantly above a field of glazing below. These panels are meticulously arranged to echo the distant silhouette of the West Texas mountains against the horizon, capturing the region’s rugged yet serene atmosphere. This thoughtful design achieves a striking balance of simplicity and sophistication, establishing the hospital as a modern landmark that resonates with the desert’s timeless beauty.
